The company founder has been heavily involved in the high-end tourism arena for around 20 years. He lived in Japan for 10 years where he owned two Japanese Shipping Lines. His passion is golf and sailing and he visited many of the Japanese hidden scenic places on his own yacht while in Japan. In 2005 he built his 24-passenger luxury cruise ship operating in New Zealand, South Pacific and Tahiti. This cruise business was sold in 2019 and The Golf Tourist was established.
